What are Twin Ended Pumps and when should they be used?
Twin Ended Pumps are designed to pump hot and cold water simultaneously
and to boost flow and pressure to shower systems or other terminal appliances.
They can also be used for smaller, Whole House applications where both
hot and cold supplies require boosting (see Data
Sheet No.4).
Where prolonged pumping of a single
hot or cold supply is likely, then single ended pumps should be fitted (see
Data Sheet No.2)

Figs 1 & 2 above show typical
installations for a twin ended pump. To achieve optimum performance and long
life, it is essential to site the pump correctly, where possible adjacent to
the hot water cylinder, and to ensure an uninterrupted air free supply of hot
water to the pump. See a copy of our Installation
Instructions for further details.
The Techflow Solution
Techflow Products manufacture the following range of twin
ended centrifugal pumps. They are designed for domestic applications
combining high flow rates with a low noise level.

Application examples for each pump
type are given below:
- QT45-2
To boost
flow to low resistance shower mixer valves and provide a significant
performance increase when compared with a gravity shower system. Can also be
used to pump both hot and cold water supplies in a small house or flat where a
relatively small increase in supply pressure and flow is required.
- QT80-2
To boost
performance to more restrictive shower systems or provide enhanced performance
to low restriction systems. Can be used with multi-function shower heads with
pulse mode and also for pumping hot and cold supplies in a medium size house
where a relatively moderate increase in supply pressure and flow is
required.
- QT120-2
To provide
high pressure performance for multi-function type shower systems with champagne
mode handsets and where body jets or rainbars are fitted. Will also provide
pressurised hot and cold water in a large house where a significant increase in
supply pressure and flow is required and where long pipe runs are
involved.
When selecting a pump for a specific
application, the type of shower to be used and length of pipe runs envisaged is
crucial. For advice on specific installations, please contact the
Techflow HELPLINE.
All Techflow Twin Ended Pumps are
switched by integral flow switches which operate when the shower valve or tap
is opened. A minimum gravity flow of 1 1/min is required to activate the
flowswitch but where this is not achievable, Negative Head systems area
available (see Data Sheet No.1).
