I'm an architect with a complex apartment project on my hands,
can you supply all pumps and systems?
Yes. Techflow are well
versed with projects of all sizes. Our leading edge products are cost effective
and extremely competitive. We have single ended pumps,
twin ended pumps, power
showers, negative head systems - everything you
require, as well as expert installation support for
your installers.
What is meant by the term Power
Shower? Domestic showers come in various forms:
- Electric showers where the
shower is fed with mains or tanked cold water and the water is heated
instantaneously as the water flows. In the main these are likely to be
relatively low flow systems typically 4 to 8 litres per minute depending on
power rating. The handset is likely to be single function with a very fine
shower pattern designed to support the low flow rate with a higher pressure.
- Gravity fed showers where
the shower is fed with hot and cold tanked water. The shower can be
thermostatic or manual and typically flow rates of between 5 and 9 litres per
minute are achievable depending on the type of valve used, the handset or rose,
which are rarely more than two function, and the static shower head available.
- Pumped shower systems or
Power Shower: these can be the 'Box on the
Wall' variety where the shower pump is located in the showering enclosure or
the remote pump variety where the pump is located away from the shower.
Since the remote version allows for the use of physically larger shower
pumps they invariably give a more powerful shower and flow rates in the order
of 12 to 25 litres per minute are typical. The use of such a pump allows more
exotic handsets to be used which include features such as Pulse and
Champagne.
What is a negative head?
A
Negative Head Situation exists where the pumped outlet
is in a position level with or above the level of the cold water storage
tank.
Since conventional Techflow shower pumps require some gravity flow to activate
the pump switching mechanism, they cannot start under these circumstances and
will require some form of external switching to initiate shower pump start up.
This can be achieved in a variety of ways. We offer high
quality negative head systems, including single and twin shower pumps
available with AS (Automatic Switching), MSA (Manual Switching - Air Switch),
and MSP (Manual Switching - Pull Cord). See our full product
range.
Why pump multi-outlets? Most domestic
installations rely on a combination of mains fed cold water and tank fed hot
and cold water to satisfy all their water requirements. Typically the kitchen
might receive mains fed cold water with bathrooms being fed from stored cold
water. The hot water cylinder will normally be fed from the cold water storage
tank via either a 22mm or 28mm down-service and this will supply all the hot
outlets in the house.
Exceptions to this type of water
supply are the unvented and combination boiler water systems where mains fed
cold water is used to pressurise the hot water supply which then feeds directly
to the required outlets. The cold water is likewise fed directly from the mains
supply to the required outlets. Since these systems are fed directly from the
mains cold water supply, water regulations prohibit the installation of
pumps.
If the property does however rely
totally or partially on tank fed supplies, then pumping either the cold or hot
water or both can prove advantageous in the following applications:
- To boost hot water to outlets
where it is advantageous to equalise the supply pressure to the mains fed cold
appliances e.g. mixer taps, bath fill,
etc.
- To accelerate the fill rate to
outlets such as Dish Washers or Washing Machines and from 'restrictive'
continental type basin and bath mixer taps.
- To boost the flow rate to all
outlets and appliances in the house including power showers.
The Techflow Solution will depend on
the size of the house, the number of outlets to be pumped and the nature of the
appliances. Contact us with your exact
requirements.
